Nadi astrology is a unique form of Hindu astrology that has been traditionally practiced around the Vaitheeswaran Koil temple in Tamil Nadu. It is founded on the belief that ancient Hindu sages had the divine foresight to predict the past, present, and future of all human beings. These insights were recorded on palm leaves, which are attributed to the revered sage Agathiyar, who is believed to have received them through divine revelations. Originally, these sacred Nadi palm leaves were preserved in the Tanjore Saraswathi Mahal Library, one of Tamil Nadu’s oldest and most significant repositories of knowledge. However, over time, some manuscripts were lost or damaged, and during British rule, the remaining leaves were auctioned. Families of astrologers from the Vaitheeswaran Koil temple acquired these leaves, carefully preserving and passing them down through generations, ensuring the continuation of this ancient astrological tradition.
